The homeowners, originally from England, wanted some very specific design elements for their kitchen – designs from U.K. cabinet companies. The island is a replica of a piece from a British firm that the homeowner desired for her U.S. kitchen.
The inset cabinets with simple shaker style doors were built to the 9′ ceiling and the upper doors were fitted with glass mullions and illuminated for display. The dark river rock granite contrasts the lighter cabinets and simple blue glass subway tiles continues the color scheme on the backsplash.
A Shaw’s contemporary farmhouse sink was chosen for its sharper lines. A Thermador 48″ range with a stainless hood and backsplash completes the cooking area.
The butler’s pantry is home to a second sink and dishwasher as well as a microwave drawer and refrigerator/pantry wall. In lieu of upper cabinets in the butler’s pantry, open wood shelving with brackets were chosen for display.
